Laundry Love

Our church, Eustace First Baptist, did a Laundry Love, and we got to help! What is Laundry Love? The official website says:
"Laundry Love Projects (LLPs) are regular opportunities to help people who are struggling financially by assisting them with doing their laundry. Relationships are built, and LLPs become small communities of common concern in which participants often find that they receive assistance and benefit with other areas of their lives."

All of our youth group got to help, by bringing quarters or soap to the Laundromat and washing the laundry for those who came. It was fun, but we were all a little worried that we would be asked to do laundry once we got home!:-) After we finished doing the laundry, there were hot dogs and snacks for those who attended or just walked by. Then some of my friends, my brothers, and I played hot potato football in the gazebo on the square. It was a good opportunity to not just help the people and tell them about our church, but also to make friends with them.

What I've been doing...

I went to my friend Bridgette's house for a sleepover and that was really fun! We got to sleep in their new camper on the bunk beds and watch movies. We also wrote one-act plays and preformed them. T. and I wrote one about two babysitters who stop dangerous thieves and get awarded  a medal by the President. It was quite corny, I assure you, especially because the heroes were ourselves.:-) Bridgette and R. wrote a skit about two girls who live on a dude ranch for movie stars. It was really funny. Next we watched Pocahontas, because we knew all the songs. Then we played Apples to Apples, Clue, and a game we invented called Who Said That. We took turns having one of us close our eyes, then the other 3 would take turns yelling out anything, and the girl with her eyes closed guessed who it was. Earlier that day, we played complex Barbies with Bridgette's little sister, and that was really fun. We also played a game where each person got a sheet of paper and had to do something with it. I wrote a story about a girl who lived during the Civil war, Bridgette and T. worked on a song, and R. wrote a story,too. And of course we went to bed.... around 3 a.m.

Book Review of America Sisters- A Titanic journey Across the Sea

My mom read this book to my brothers and I, and we all really enjoyed it...

America Sisters- A Titanic journey Across the Sea is about:
Sixteen year old Alfreda Anderson returns from her job in the city to her country home in Sweden to find her little brother, Karl, dead and her home in chaos. Papa sent two tickets to America on the White Star Line's new ship, the Titanic, and in a strange twist, Alfreda and her ten year old sister Erna will be going to America alone. Alfreda is thrilled. She'll never have to work for her stingy relatives again! She can go to school, learn English, become wealthy... Erna hates leaving the farm and the little trolls she thinks live there. She's nothing like Alfreda. The two girls must learn to get along, and just when they start to think that they can handle anything, a mysterious ring gets them in trouble with  stewards on the Titanic, strange roommates bother them, and they get lost... Still, Alfreda and Erna are certain that everything will be fine-until April 14, 1912, when the Titanic goes down. This is a great read!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick's Day was originally a holiday celebrating Ireland's patron saint and observed only in Ireland; it took many years until Irish who moved to the U.S. started the first St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City.
The reason we wear green is explained in many ways. People say blue was originally the color worn on the holiday but eventually green took over because of Ireland's nickname as "The Emerald Isle", the green in the green & orange Irish flag and the clover that St. Patrick used as a symbol in his teachings.

Our Party (and The Great Skunk Fiasco)

We had a party at our house yesterday for some of my Dad's co-workers. We got to explore the property, fish, play ball, and a lot of other things. A little bit of drama happened as we were setting up for the party... Mom and Andrew went to get the BBQ. Dad, Christopher and I were setting up chairs.  Then Dad said "Oh my gosh, there's a skunk in the building!"  So we started yelling and whistling at the skunk to get it to go away. It  was the same skunk that my dad had seen bothering our chickens this morning. He'd hurt it pretty bad, and it had wandered over here again, disoriented. We threw a bunch of baseballs and a volleyball at it, and it ran out of the building. But before Dad could shoot it, it ran into the garage, where I, in a moment of pure genius(lol) had left the truck door open. Bravely I ran past the skunk and shut the door. :-) (I really did, and I threw a baseball at the skunk.)  We managed to shoot the skunk. And so, the house smelt just lovely for our visitors. But we still had a great time! Everyone liked playing with all our pets and wandering in the woods, and we had fun showing them around.
