       We have five cats(6 if you count Socks, who  alternates between the neighbors' home and ours). With the exception of Socks, the others are all female.Saturday night, relieved the Henderson County Livestock Show was finally over, Christopher (my middle brother) and I headed outside to pen our chickens up for the evening. We were saddened to find our dogs had decided to use one of the chickens as a chew toy. Dad came outside and went to bury it. While they were attending to that, I noticed one of our five cats, Smokey, was back! She hadn't came to eat that morning,and she always comes to eat. We'd decided a few months ago that since she'd been spending a LOT of time with our male cat , Socks, and she was suspiciously fat, she just might be pregnant. I'd thought she was fixed, but it turned out she wasn't. I couldn't help wondering if Smokey had been off having her kittens. Then I saw that she was filthy. Dad and I followed her out to a little glen of trees behind the old goat pen and his workshop. We saw four kittens who look just like Socks! Since it was surprisingly cold and windy, we brought Smokey and her kittens into the workshop and fixed up a cute little box for them. They are ADORABLE!! Their eyes aren't even open yet.

Snakes, spiders, coyotes,and other scary things.

I've always been scared of coyotes and snakes. Some snakes can be cute but coyotes really scare me. Coyotes are kinda like wolves and if you've ever heard of Red Riding Hood?! Okay, I know that wouldn't happen to me, but still....

 Yesterday evening, we were sitting down to dinner. My mom was looking out the window, and suddenly she yelled "Oh my goodness! There's a coyote over by the pond!" We looked outside, and a big coyote was just strolling along. He didn't hurt anything, just walked in the woods. Now for the scary part. a couple of days ago, my Dad had killed 3 snakes. One crawled under the woodpile, and we were sure we saw it. So I held Dad's big spotlight, and he shot it. It was huge and I was scared. It kept moving even though it was dead. Why? Because after their death, the muscles can move as a result of a reaction in their nerves. Usually, the movement is just a twitch, but they can spin and open their mouth and do all sorts of crazy things.

I had to write a news article for school, so I decided to write about our new bunnies!!

  On Friday, May 11, 2012, Sherry was in her kitchen washing dishes when, suddenly,"My daughter Laura Ashley ran in and told me our mother rabbit had given birth. I said "Let me get my shoes on and I'll be right out," she recalls. "I was overwhelmed-scared some of the baby bunnies might have died but so thrilled that the kids would have bunnies to show in 4-H."

  Christopher, Sherry's son, says of the incident,"I was feeding our dogs when my sister ran and told me that our rabbit had had babies." Next, he says "Sadly, one of the baby bunnies had died, so I removed it from the cage." Mrs. Childress called her husband and informed him of the news. Around this time, a neighbor stopped by, and he too was told of the birth.


  The baby bunnies currently reside in a nesting box in their mother's cage. They are Californian Rabbits and will eventually have white fluffy fur and red eyes. Currently, their eyes are shut, they have no fur (they look somewhat like naked mole rats) and they are asleep. No pictures are available at this time.

Our Party (and The Great Skunk Fiasco)

We had a party at our house yesterday for some of my Dad's co-workers. We got to explore the property, fish, play ball, and a lot of other things. A little bit of drama happened as we were setting up for the party... Mom and Andrew went to get the BBQ. Dad, Christopher and I were setting up chairs.  Then Dad said "Oh my gosh, there's a skunk in the building!"  So we started yelling and whistling at the skunk to get it to go away. It  was the same skunk that my dad had seen bothering our chickens this morning. He'd hurt it pretty bad, and it had wandered over here again, disoriented. We threw a bunch of baseballs and a volleyball at it, and it ran out of the building. But before Dad could shoot it, it ran into the garage, where I, in a moment of pure genius(lol) had left the truck door open. Bravely I ran past the skunk and shut the door. :-) (I really did, and I threw a baseball at the skunk.)  We managed to shoot the skunk. And so, the house smelt just lovely for our visitors. But we still had a great time! Everyone liked playing with all our pets and wandering in the woods, and we had fun showing them around.

We had a great Christmas. Mom and Dad got me some GREAT books, I got a gift card from my aunt,uncle and cousins to one of my fave stores and I bought more books.Yayyyyy! I love books. From Santa I got a Calligraphy set(I used it a million times already. It's so awesome!) ,some BIZU charms (go to http://www.thebizuworld.com/#/) , a D.S. game, and a lot of clothes. And candy.:-)From my Grandmama & Granddaddy I got Taylor swift CDs, cute clothes, and headbands. What was really sweet was that my little brothers got me really cute and thoughtful gifts-Hello Kitty fuzzy socks and D.S games that go with my fave books, Nancy Drew. Santa got us a computer for the homeschool room so we can each use the computer now-me on this one, Christopher on the new one. Grandmama & Granddaddy also got us a Spanish Rosetta Stone for the computer. I hope you guys had a good Christmas!

Humane Society!

This was Jake. He LOVED his toy!

I'm the teen leader for the Henderson County 4-H Clover kids, and we participated in the National 4-H One Day Make A Difference Day by giving to the Henderson County Humane Society in Athens on Saturday, October 8. We got a special tour and were allowed to play with the dogs and cats that were safe and kid friendly. I loved playing with the cats-they were so cute!We (and other 4-H kids) had taken donations of supplies for the animal shelter,which were really needed. All the animals were so friendly!

It takes a lot of food to feed all those animals!

One dog kept trying to sniff us out, then thought he was so smart when he saw us!

This cat was really cute!
